Lace up those skates?and bundle up?Lake Marie pond at Bedford Hills Memorial Park and Todds pond located off Cherry Street and Lakeside Drive in Katonah have been opened for Ice Skating.
Recreation and Parks staff tested the ice Friday morning, said William Heidepriem, commissioner.
Locals can skate while it's daylight, but night skating is not permitted.
"Areas where skating is permitted and areas where skating is not permitted are marked with signs. The green flags and YES ice skating is permitted signs are posted at both sites," Heidepriem said an in email to Patch, noting that the conditions at Lake Marie were "excellent," and "fair" at Todds Pond.
Temperatures won't rise much above the teens today, but tomorrow they will reach the mid-20s, according to the National Weather Service. A light overnight snow is possible, but new accumulation is forecast to be less than a half-inch. On Sunday, a high of 28 degrees is forecast.
The ponds will be checked daily for safe conditions and if ice conditions change or deteriorate, staff will close the ponds and post signage with red flags.
