Stuart Broad skips final day against Mumbai A with bruised heel ? Cricket News Update

England?s vice-captain and frontline pacer Stuart Broad did not take to the field on the final day of the tour match between Mumbai A and an England XI owing to a bruised left heel, as revealed by scans. The possibility of his participation in the upcoming practice match against Haryana, however, is yet to be determined.

?Scans show Broad has a bruised left heel. He is fit to field but won't bowl today,? confirmed a statement released by the England and Wales Cricket Board on the final day of the match, today on November 5 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. ?Progress will be monitored over next couple of days.?

Broad did not feature in the first tour match, played against the India A at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai from October 30 to November 1, for which he was rested. The match against the Mumbai A marked his first appearance during this tour, and Broad was brought in as skipper while original Test captain Alastair Cook was rested.

However, he was only able to bowl a total of 10 overs (during which he went wicketless), and did not return to bowl after tea on day 2. Trouble with his left heel saw him being sent in for scans, which revealed bruising.

The team?s next practice match is due to be played against Haryana from November 8 to 11 at the Sardar Patel Stadium B Ground, in Motera, Ahmedabad ? however, Broad?s participation in the match, and the subsequent Test series against India, due to begin on November 15 (also at Motera in Ahmedabad), has come under doubt.

The injury marks the second blow to England?s pace attack, after Steven Finn was hit by injury earlier. Should Broad be forced to sit out, the England pace attack will find itself severely depleted ? a condition they cannot afford in the subcontinent, where the team finds themselves vulnerable.

Meanwhile, the Indian camp has also been struck by a number of injuries, most notably Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan, with the former nursing an injured index finger, while the latter grapples with a cramp.
