About Fitness and Nutrition Books
With all the fad diet books out there it?s easy to become overwhelmed as well as drawn into some of the ?get fit quick? schemes. ?The following books are mostly written by celebrity fitness personalities and aren?t really guides to health or fitness founded on medical research or scientific data. ?So it?s important to take all these books with a grain of salt and remember there?s no shortcut to losing weight.
That being said, these are books that do have some valuable information which can help educate you on the human body, make you more aware of the foods you eat, and help you lead a healthier life.
This Is Why You?re Fat (And How to Get Thin Forever): Eat More, Cheat More, Lose More?and Keep the Weight Off by Jackie Warner (2010): This book opened my eyes to just how much sugar is in the foods we eat. ?Many people agree that sugar isn?t good for you, but I?m sure few know just how much is in foods we wouldn?t necessarily consider sweets. ?Warner argues that it?s not fat or even carbs, but sugar, that is causing obesity.
Master Your Metabolism: The 3 Diet Secrets to Naturally Balancing Your Hormones for a Hot and Healthy Body! by Jillian Michaels (2009): As the title indicates, this book is all about your metabolism. ?Before reading this book, I thought I knew what your metabolism was. ?Turns out, I was wrong! ?Michaels really seems to care about helping people and educating them on eating clean foods. ?She also emphasizes the importance of eating good, quality calories versus fewer, bad calories in weight loss.
Making the Cut: The 30-Day Diet and Fitness Plan for the Strongest, Sexiest You by Jillian Michaels (2007): This book is basically a fitness plan to help you get in shape. ?Michaels supplies workouts and meals to guide you. ?I personally could never follow a strict regime and I find her exercises repetitive and boring. ?But there?s a fascinating section at the end on peaking and she reveals some secrets about how celebrities get fit for big events as well as debunking some fitness myths.
The Master Your Metabolism Cookbook by Jillian Michaels (2010): This cookbook is meant to?supplement?Michaels? book on metabolism. ?It is full of healthy recipes, including recipes for things you might not think of as healthy. ?What I learned from this book was how you can substitute ingredients to make chocolate cake, for example, to make it better for you.
The Biggest Loser Simple Swaps: 100 Easy Changes to Start Living a Healthier Lifestyle by Cheryl Forberg (2009): There?s a whole series of Biggest Loser diet books but I found this one to be particularly useful. ?Just as the title indicates, it is full of swaps you can make that will mean eating healthier. ?Many people think weight loss has to be difficult or that you need to make drastic changes. ?This book shows there are small things you can do to make a big difference in your health.
What books on fitness and nutrition have you read? ?What have they taught you? ?Do you think this kind of book is useful or are most fitness books written by celebrities just gimmicks? ?Should we be listening to celebrity trainers versus doctors or scientists?
